Scott Snyder to pen Batman: Zero Year

Last week, DC Comics revealed the next big arc from Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo with be an 11-issue epic entitled Batman: Zero Year. It is slated to begin in June with Batman #21 and will look back on Bruce Wayne's earliest days as the Dark Knight.

Now, some longtime Batman fans may groan at reading this, what with the Batman's origin being told time and again by such top-notch storytellers as Frank Miller (Year One) and, more recently, Geoff Johns (Earth One), but according to Mr. Snyder, Zero Year is something we've never seen before.

Snyder says that story will follow the continuity that was established in Batman #0, and will go back about six years. The story will not focus on Bruce Wayne's training, but will focus on a part of Bruce's life that Batman fans have never seen before. Snyder, who got the idea for the story's time period by realizing there was a point in Bruce's life that has gone unexplored, hopes the story will surprise fans.

Snyder says that this is his and Greg Capullo's take on Bruce's early years and is done in a way, he hopes, that is very respectful of the stories that have come before it. Early brainstorming sessions saw Snyder thinking about all the stuff that was never shown over the course of Frank Miller's Year One. Snyder wanted to tell a story about Bruce's early adventures, but after the launch of the New 52, he realized a lot of the things he was trying to work around from Year One no longer applied.

Snyder soon realized what needed to be done was a story that paid the utmost of respect to the Frank Miller masterpiece, but show how Batman became Batman within the New 52 universe. He says the mission was to show Batman's transformative years in a way that was fresh and new, and still paid tribute to the events in Year One.

Paying tribute to the classic story freed up story elements and allowed Snyder and Capullo to write about Bruce Wayne's early years in a new, original way. Any other way, Snyder says, just wouldn't have made the story of Batman: Zero Year worth telling.

While readers will be seeing elements of Batman #0 throughout the arc, and will track with the continuity of that issue, Snyder assures fans that none of those moments will be retreaded in Zero Year. The last thing Snyder says they wanted to do was give fans a book sporting a bunch of redone pages from Batman #0, everything is to be fresh, new and unseen.

Year Zero will follow the continuity established in Batman #0
Although he doesn't want to give too much away, Snyder also mentions that there is a very strong chance we see early versions of beloved characters, both old and new, throughout the 11 issue arc. He hopes fans will genuinely enjoy the story told within the books pages, refusing to hype the story in order to sell copies. He also mentions that, while he has loved working with other Batman writers on some of DC's great crossover stories, Zero Year will be a standalone tale.

Snyder, who wants to thank fans for their amazing support of Batman, says this is the bravest, boldest story that they could possibly do within the events of the New 52 right now, and really hopes it is something fans agree is something really great,

Batman: Zero Year starts this June, beginning with Batman #21...

A New Direction for Lucasfilm Animation Begins

Today, Lucasfilm announced that a new era of animation is set to begin...

As an exciting new era focused on the next Star Wars trilogy begins, Lucasfilm has decided to pursue a new direction in animated programming.  A new Star Wars animated series is planned, and takes place in a time period previously untouched in Star Wars based film or television programming. More details are set to be revealed in the coming months.

As part of this new shift, some new, key choices have been made regarding both Star Wars: The Clone Wars & Star Wars Detours...

After five highly successful and critically acclaimed seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Lucasfilm has decided to start winding down the series. While the studio will no longer be producing new episodes for Cartoon Network, they will continue production on new Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most thrilling adventures ever seen. Again, more information will be revealed to fans in the coming months.

Many may recall it was at Celebration VI last year that Star Wars godfather, George Lucas, first gave fans a glimpse at the animated comedy series Star Wars Detours from Seth Green, Matthew Senreich, and Todd Grimes. Detours was conceived and produced before Lucasfilm decided to move forward with the new Star Wars trilogy, and in the wake of that decision, the company has reconsidered whether launching an animated comedy prior to the launch of Episode VII makes sense. As a result, they`ve decided to postpone the release of Detours until a later, and as yet undecided, date.

Lucasfilm has stated they are very proud of their team for creating some of the most amazing animation ever produced for TV.
