The Force Awakens Nears $2-Billion Worldwide

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been in theatres for almost a month and a half now and its impressive box office numbers continue to climb with each passing day.

In fact, the film, directed by J.J. Abrams, has been doing so well that analysts predict the film could reach an astronomical $2-Billion worldwide by the end of this week.

“The box office performance of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ shows just how much ‘Star Wars’ is part of the DNA of moviegoers in North America,” said senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian. “It shows how important legacy can be for a movie because there’s been an incredible enthusiasm for this one.”

This weekend, the film brought in $10.8-Million domestically. Thus, its domestic total now sits at $895.4-Million, or $125-Million more than James Cameron's Avatar.

Internationally, the numbers are just as impressive. This weekend, The Force Awakens brought in $12.6-Million and now sits at $1.09-Billion overseas.

Thus, the seventh chapter of the iconic space saga has brought in $1.983-Billion globally and needs only $17-Million more to make it past $2-Billion.

The Force truly is strong with Star Wars.

Gwendoline Christie Confirms Star Wars Return

Do you feel Captain Phasma pretty much got shafted in The Force Awakens? Well Gwendoline Christie has a surprise for you! The Game Of Thrones actress has confirmed she'll be back as the chrome-clad stormtrooper for Star Wars: Episode VIII.

"I will be in the next Star Wars movie. I think that's an exclusive, actually," the actress told People during a red carpet preshow for the 2016 SAG Awards.
Captain Phasma followed in the footsteps of such iconic characters as Darth Maul and Boba Fett, receiving an aggressive merchandising campaign despite having limited screen time. And, like those characters, even though she was thought to have died fans will see her once again.

Technically, the next Star Wars movie is Gareth Edwards' Rogue One, but given that the movie takes place between Revenge Of The Sith and A New Hope and that Star Wars: Episode VIII is about to start filming, it's pretty clear that Christie is talking about Episode VIII.

Directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: Episode VIII will hit theaters on December 15, 2017.
