Wonder Woman is a box office smash hit! The film currently sits at $240-Million worldwide and is expected to remain at the top of the box office heading into its second weekend.
With such an impressive start, there is no doubt that Warner Bros. will be moving ahead with a sequel very soon. Additionally, one would also expect the sequel to be handled by the first film's director, Patty Jenkins. However, as of this point in time, she has yet to sign on for the Wonder Woman sequel.Warner Bros. executives had apparently enlisted Jenkins for just one film, which is said to be standard practice at the studio for director's handling a big-budget studio film.
When Jenkins was brought on following the exit of previous director Michelle MacLaren, she had directed just one movie - her 2003 debut film Monster.
Now, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the studio intends to begin negotiations with Jenkins over a Wonder Woman sequel shortly. The filmmaker and her reps at CAA will be enjoying some enormous leverage at the bargaining table when talks begin thanks to the huge success of Wonder Woman. Not only could Jenkins return to the director's chair on Wonder Woman 2 but also could ink a more expansive deal that would allow her to work with DC Entertainment president and chief creative officer Geoff Johns on a script treatment for that movie and possibly others as well.
Expect more soon!
